Privacy Policy

Effective October 21, 2026

The Dekleptocracy Alliance respects the privacy of everyone who visits this site, contacts us or supports our work. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it and what we will never do with it.

The short version

We collect very little. We keep the name, email address and gift details of people who donate, the email address and password of people who choose to create a donor account and the email addresses of people who join our list. We do not track visitors. We never sell, rent, trade or otherwise distribute your information to anyone.

What we collect

Visitors

You can read everything on this site without telling us who you are. We do not run analytics software, advertising trackers or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which record the IP address, browser type and pages requested for each visit. Those logs exist for security and to keep the site running, and we do not use them to identify individual visitors. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page requests a font. Google describes how it handles that in its own privacy policy.

Donors

Donations are processed by ActBlue or Donorbox on their own websites, under their own privacy policies. We never see or store your full payment card number. After you give, the processor sends us your name, email address, the amount and date of your gift and the project you chose. We keep that record so we can credit your gift to the project, show it to you in your donor account if you create one and send you updates on the project you funded. Some project donation links go to a page operated by or for the project organization itself rather than by us. When that is the case, that organization receives your donation details directly and its privacy policy applies to what it collects.

Donor accounts

Creating an account is optional. If you create one, we collect the email address and password you choose. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. The account shows you the donations we have on record for your email address and the latest updates from the projects you funded. Signing in sets a session cookie so the site knows it is you. That cookie does nothing else.

Email list subscribers

The sign-up form on our home page is provided by Action Network. When you submit it, the email address and any other details you enter go to Action Network, which stores them for us under its own privacy policy. We use the list only to tell you about new investigations and new project launches.

Dekleptocracy Journal subscribers

The Journal is published on Substack. The subscribe box on our site is Substack's, and anything you enter in it goes to Substack under Substack's privacy policy, not to this website.

People who write to us

If you email us, we receive whatever you send and keep the correspondence so we can respond to you and keep a record of it.

Project updates by email

When you donate to a project, we send you news about that project from updates@standuptocorruption.org as it posts milestones and updates. Each message says why you are receiving it. If you would rather not get them, reply to any update or write to info@standuptocorruption.org and we will stop.

Cookies

This site sets a cookie only when you sign in to a donor account, and that cookie only keeps you signed in. We set no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Tools embedded from other companies, such as the Action Network sign-up form and the Substack subscribe box, may set their own cookies under their own policies.

What we never do

  • We never sell your information.
  • We never rent, trade or lease your information.
  • We never share your information with other organizations for their own marketing, fundraising or list-building.
  • We never publish the names of our donors without their express permission.
  • We never run advertising trackers or sell data about how you use this site.

When we may share information

We share personal information only in these narrow circumstances.

Service providers

Companies that run systems for us may handle your information only to perform that service. Today those are Vercel, which hosts the site, Supabase, which stores our database and runs donor sign-in, Resend, which delivers our project update emails, Action Network, which runs our email list, and ActBlue and Donorbox, which process donations.

Projects you funded

Our model is to launch projects as independent organizations that report back to the people who funded them. When a project you gave to becomes independent, we may pass your name and email address to that organization so it can keep you informed about its work. It may not use your information for anything else without your permission.

Legal requirements

When the law requires it, for example in response to a valid subpoena or court order, or where disclosure is required by tax or nonprofit reporting rules.

Safety

To protect the safety of our staff, researchers, sources, partners or the public.

How long we keep it

We keep donation records for as long as tax and nonprofit reporting law requires. We keep donor accounts until you close them. We keep email list subscriptions until you unsubscribe. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for responding to you and maintaining a record.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from our email list at any time using the link in any message we send. You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it, including closing your donor account, and we will honor the request unless the law requires us to keep the record. Write to info@standuptocorruption.org.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections, access controls on our database and a policy of collecting as little as we can. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot promise absolute security, but keeping little means there is little to lose.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will post the revised version here with a new effective date.
